While Cadet Deming is stationed at Cobra’s Temple Alpha, Cobra kidnaps scientist Professor Mulaney to work on a secret weapon which turns water molecules into a bomb of unimaginable explosive power. With the help of G.I. Joe Mulaney manages to escape and, as a safeguard, implants the formula’s secret ingredient into the subconscious of Shipwreck. Cobra manages to capture Shipwreck subjecting him to an elaborate scenario involving hallucinogenic sedatives and Synthoid replicas of his friends in their efforts to pry the secret formula from his subconscious. Tomax and Xamot task Crimson Guard Cadet Deming with handling the “Degree Absolute” interrogation to extract the information directly from Shipwreck’s brain as part of her training. Heedless of the dangers to her subject and herself, Deming unleashes the full power of the procedure, but it proves too intense for the young recruit.
