The key energy source they extract is the volatile Dark Energon. Mole Rat (Stage 2) represents an accelerated degeneration of these troopers. Extended exposure to the volatile Dark Energon has sparked these individuals to become mindless husks bent on destroying anything in their path. Stage 2 of the infection has accelerated this degeneration.
