Review : Star Wars Black Series Boba Fett & Han in Carbonite (SDCC 2013 Exclusive) by www.mephitsu.co.uk
The San Diego Comic Con 2013 exclusive set from Hasbro's Star Wars 6" Black Series line, featuring Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite, is highly coveted by collectors. The set boasts a sleek black presentation with a Mandalorian helmet design on the sleeve and grey lined artwork at the back. The figures inside are intricately sculpted and painted, particularly the Boba Fett figure with a well-proportioned helmet, hallmark dent and high-quality paint decor. The figure also comes with 16 points of articulation, a well-detailed jet pack and the EE-3 Carbine Rifle, superbly realized in design and decor.
Meanwhile, the set's Han Solo in Carbonite is a hollow, lightweight piece designed for both upright and horizontal display, using a multifunctional three-piece display stand. This carbonite accessory, together with Boba Fett and his accessories, forms the basis of a visually striking Empire Strikes Back diorama.
There are, however, some criticisms. Due to the set's exclusiveness, it commands a hefty price, limiting its availability to fans. The K-11 pistol included also lacks adequate detailing and appears out of place in the set. Also, the cloak on the Boba Fett figure has been noted to hang flat and not deteriorate over time.
Despite minor shortcomings, the set, originally retailed at $44.99 at SDCC and approximately £45 in Europe, delivers value for its price.
The San Diego ComicCon 2013 exclusive Star Wars Black Series toys, featuring Boba Fett and Han Solo in carbonite, are exciting additions to any collection. The packaging is attractive with a glossy finish and embossed Boba Fett mask on the outside. The figures come with their corresponding accessories, like Boba Fett's jet pack and Han Solo in carbonite, making the experience feel authentic to the Star Wars universe.
The attention to detail is impressive, not only are the figures themselves intricately sculpted but the accessories like Fett's guns come with similar detailing. Boba Fett's figure is well-articulated, making it easy to pose in various ways that stay true to the character's movements.
The Han Solo in carbonite is particularly notable for its realistic marbleized look and the sculpted detail give it an authentic worn appearance. It comes with a clear base stand to give the illusion that it's floating, as it did in "The Empire Strikes Back".
The figures are testament to the value of quality craftsmanship, with small details like cloth patterns sculpted on Boba Fett's jacket and rivets on his helmet. The texture and paint variations make each figure unique and visually appealing. The packaging is impressive in its detail as well, featuring line diagrams of Boba Fett and instruction on how to set up the stand to the carbonite.
The toys do have minor issues with articulation, making certain poses a bit difficult, but overall, these figures are an excellent addition to any Star Wars collection, providing both visual appeal and authenticity to the beloved franchise.
