The character's real name is Ponda Baba, an Aqualish thug who is best known for his brief but memorable confrontation with Luke Skywalker in the Mos Eisley Cantina.
In the scene, Ponda Baba, along with his companion Dr. Evazan, threatens Luke. The confrontation escalates quickly and ends when Obi-Wan Kenobi intervenes, using his lightsaber to sever Ponda Baba's arm, effectively ending the altercation.
The nickname "Walrus Man" comes from Kenner's original action figure line. When the toy was released, many of the alien characters did not have official names yet, so Kenner assigned them descriptive monikers based on their appearances. Because Ponda Baba's facial features somewhat resembled a walrus with his large, flipper-like hands and a mouth that looked like walrus tusks, the action figure was packaged and labeled as "Walrus Man."
