The Jedi Training Ball and Swing Arm: This is a very common missing piece. The thin, black swing arm that holds the training ball is very fragile and was easily snapped off. The tiny plastic training ball at the end is also frequently missing.
The Smuggling Compartment Cover: This is a small, clear-plastic piece that covers the smuggling compartment. It's meant to be removable, which also means it was very easy to lose.
The Gunner's Seat: The seat inside the gunner's station is a small, separate plastic piece. It often broke off or was simply misplaced.
The Exterior and Structural Flaws
The Cockpit Canopy: The cockpit canopy is a two-part piece with a clear plastic front and a grey plastic top. The tiny pegs that hold it in place are incredibly fragile and can snap off, making the entire piece loose or easy to detach. You also want to check the clear plastic for any cracks or yellowing, a common issue with clear plastics from this era.
The Quad Laser Cannons: The large top quad laser cannon is a separate piece that was often lost. The two smaller side cannons are also prone to breaking at their bases, or the tips can snap off.
The Boarding Ramp: The boarding ramp, which folds down, is often found with broken hinges or a weakened lock. It can be difficult to find one that stays securely in the raised position.
Collector's Tip: When looking for a vintage Falcon, the most important thing to check for is the condition of the interior features. Ask for a photo with the top opened and the smuggling compartment visible. After that, inspect the condition of the cockpit canopy and the state of the laser cannons.
